We’re on the plane in Germany waiting for takeoff. Its 10 am local time but 3 am back home… Yikes!

We are hoping for another good flight. No TVs in the seats but we’re sitting in clusters on the plane which is fun!

More updates once we land in Israel!

Israel

While our student ministry mission group is in Israel, each of our five mission teams will be updating this site as often as possible.  Please check it out while we are away so that you can know how the trip is going and so that you can pray specifically for the needs of our group.  The dates of the Israel mission trip are July 14th to July 26th.

We just finished our HP&L Middle School Mission Trip - it was an awesome few days serving people around our city.  We led a VBS at a nearby apartment complex, we sorted food at the Houston Food Bank, and we helped clean the dorms at Star of Hope.  In addition to all this we also had a pool party, lots of Sonic drinks, and some pretty awesome free time at the Xchange.  This was just a great chance for our students to be together and serve the people in our community.

The pictures from Camp Tallowood are finally posted online for all to see! Check them out here. Big thanks to a few of our great sponsors for letting us share their pictures.

One of the cool features on Picasa is the ability for anyone to download any picture. So, if you see a photo you like, click on it. Then click on the option at the top to “Download Photo.” Put your favorite camp pic on Facebook or get it printed for your mommy to frame!

Feel free to share the link with your friends, http://picasaweb.google.com/micahcating. And if you have a picture that everyone needs to see, email it to me at mcating@tallowood.org and I’ll post it with the others.

Camp Tallowood, Post 3

Alright!  Sorry this took so long but it seems that it has taken me longer to recover from camp this year.  Guess I’m getting old!  Anyway, my last full post was about Tuesday at camp.  So I’ll give a brief summary of the rest of the week…

Wednesday was an unusual day at Camp.  The morning was the same as usual and then at lunch time each of the 12 tribes were taken off into exile by our Camp Eagle staffers.  This meant we all went on a 30 minute hike without having our normal lunch.  Once we had hiked a good distance, we shared a simple lunch of bread, honey, almonds, and dried fruit.  We discussed the exile with our tribal leaders and then we headed back to camp for free time.  We had an early dinner followed by night time rec and a late worship service.  We had one more surprise after worship… ICE CREAM!

Thursday was a more normal day with less surprises. The big things that happened on Thursday were the tribal wall attacks and the Tribal Trek.  The tribal wall attacks happened when Camp Eagle staffers attacked each tribe with water balloons while the tribes hid behind the walls they had built all week.  This was awesome!  The Tribal Trek is the big race held each year on the last full day of camp.  The winning tribe was Naphtali!  Despite losing their tribal leader because of a cut on his knee (requiring stitches), this tribe pulled together and won it all!

Friday was a short day at camp, but it was busy.  We had the awards ceremony (1st place – Naphtali, 2nd place – Asher… only 3 points separated these teams!), then our final worship service, and then we baptized 12 people in the river.  After this we had a quick lunch and then loaded on the buses to head home!

So that is a quick summary of the week!  Wow!  Crazy!  It was an awesome time and many of our students had life-changing experiences.  Now it is our job to help these students each day as they follow Christ.

BONUS:  Check out our camp pastor, Scot Pollok’s sermon from his church on the Sunday after camp.  He talks a good bit about Camp Tallowood.
